John Berthe, 1875–1894, St. Croix

John Berthe lived in Sainte-Croix and made music boxes there around 1870. However, he did not show them at exhibitions, and the only known specimen of Berthe´s production was the donation he made to the hospital lottery in 1879: a music box playing four tunes, of the guitar mandolin type, worth twenty-four francs.
The Johan Berthe company officially ceased all activity on 9th February 1894.
