Three Combs Three-Air Clockbase An early key-wind three-air musical clockbase, for a brave restoration Circa 1825, Ser.-N° unknown Three-part comb originally with the bass of 4 teeth, 31 on the middle and 39 on the treble, on plain brass bedplate, dot-stamped comb screws, adversely mounted within oval mahogany veneered case and stained pine cover with paper label inside for P. van Grootheest, Stads Horologiemaker te Wageningen. Wageningen is a city in the central Netherlands, in the province of Gelderland. It is famous for Wageningen University. The municipality had a population of 39,635 in 2021 (Google)
With a period heart-form grip key To point out the obvious here – DO NOT WIND THIS MOVEMENT! It is a crying shame what has happened to this. Of the 74 teeth, only 26 survive intact. The cylinder pins however seem to have survived unharmed. A rather sobering example of a fine movement which has gone for a machine-gun run. (©Laurence Fisher 2025)
