Erste Beschreibung

Description of the owner, JAMES BURTON: „A music box, inwards removed, two switches in a graduated green chagrin case, mounted with a silver plated metal on copper triumphant naval trophy with flags, wreaths, cornucopia, one side with central anchor other with star sided by cadecaus trident above harp, a handshake and words `E pluribus unum´, the motto for USA. Amerikanischer Bürgerkrieg um 1866

A former music box, innards removed, two switches in a graduated pyramidal green chagrin covered wood case, mounted with a silver plated metal on copper triumphant naval trophy with flags, wreaths, cornucopia, one side with central anchor other with star sided by cadecaus & trident above harp, a handshake and words "E pluribus unum" the motto for USA. All this is mounted on an iron clad naval boat. A finial figurine atop has been sawn off and filed down

Label: "La Tromphale" ; "Valse" ; "Marche Militaire" (music box tunes by Anton Rubinstein)
BA Bremond, Rue Pradier No.7, Geneva Musical Boxes manufacturer

Trophy Inscription: F. Chomel

Has the serial number 9001 atop label. According to a thesis by Paul Bellamy at the Mechanical Music Digest, Bremond moved to the No.7 Pradier address when his serial numbers reached 9000 in 1866. Therefore my thesis is that this was commissioned for a victorious high rank naval officer for the end of the Civil War who participated in the Iron Clad battles c.1862, but for some reason never reached America, therefore the finial figurine was sawn off for resale or perhaps it broke.

Size: 6 x 5 x 4.5" (176 x 130 x 115mm);
